Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui

Commissioner of KarachiMr. Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, recognized as one of the most proactive and efficient government officers of the country, was appointed as the Commissioner of Karachi on April 23, 2013. An engineer by education, he had joined the civil service in 1984.

He graduated as Civil Engineer from the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore, before qualifying for the civil service where he has allocated to the District Management Group. He did Masters in Development Administration from the University of Birmingham in England.

He served as the Assistant Commissioner and the Registrar Cooperative Societies at the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) and the Karachi Development Authority (KMC) respectively.

Mr. Shoaib Siddiqui was posted as the Deputy Commissioner in three districts of Karachi. He headed the Administration of the districts of Karachi Central, Karachi South and Karachi East.

He also worked as the Director of Protocol, Government of Sindh. Upon the launching of the Devolution Plan in 2001, he was posted as the Executive District Officer, Finance & Planning, in the City District Government Karachi (CDGK). He also served the CDGK as the Executive District Officer, Works & Services, where he was greatly involved in the development of city infrastructure.

Mr. Shoaib Siddiqui served as Additional Secretary to the Government of Sindh in the Education and Literacy Department. He then worked as Additional Secretary, Excise & Taxation Department.

Upon promotion he was posted as Special Secretary Home Department and then Special Secretary Finance Department. Mr. Shoaib Siddiqui was assigned the responsibility of Member Land Utilization from where he was posted as Project Director, Karachi Mega City Programme, executed with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

He worked as the Secretary of the Livestock and Fisheries department before taking up the position of the Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs department, in 2008. He’s credited to have turned around the Youth Affairs department during his five-year tenure.

Mr. Shoaib Siddiqui has been hailed for his qualities of leading by example and he has been successful in making his presence felt in a big way while carrying out every single assignment.

A firm believer in promoting the soft image by letting the positive word spread to all corners, one of his greatest attributes has been the liaison with the media. He has remained instrumental in earning goodwill and recognition for the government.
