Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman is the Chief Executive of the Jang Group, the leading media house of Pakistan, which owns the iconic Urdu-language newspaper, Daily Jang, besides the Geo Television Network, acclaimed as the market leaders.
He is the youngest son of the legendary Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman, who had founded the Jang newspaper before the creation of Pakistan.
Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman joined his father’s enterprise at a young age and played a pivotal role in its phenomenal growth over the years. He launched MAG, a weekly newsmagazine, in early 1980s which went on to become the leading English periodical of the country.
Then he masterminded the publication of Daily Awam, which created new records of readership among the evening newspapers. His masterstroke, however, turned out to be Geo TV which went on air in 2002.
Mir Shakil ur Rahman has served as the President of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) besides having headed the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE). He’s the Founder President of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA).
Business Week magazine, in a report published in its issue of July 11, 2005, had selected Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman in its list of 25 Stars of Asia, for their role in bringing change in their respective field in the continent.
